With this episode, it makes it the fourth month in a row which see:
- Nella Inserra from the “Apocalist Book Club” podcast, and “Nella Explains” which includes a coffee table lining inspired episode which taught me about some areas of London.
- Meguey and D. Vincent Baker from Lumpley Games, co-authors of Apocalypse World
Together, we visit the allegorical apocalyptic landscape of “Stalker“, a 1979 movie directed by Andrei Tarkovsky. This movie is loosely based on the novel “Roadside Picnic” by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky who also co-written the film.
As usual, we review this film and discuss ways it could inspire tabletop RPG adventures, characters, or practices.
Mentioned tabletop RPG settings and systems:
- “Apocalypse World“, “The Last Adventure“, and “Murderous Ghosts: A Party Game” by Lumpley Games
- “The Quiet Year” by Avery Alder for Buried Without Ceremony
- “Shock: Social Science Fiction” by Joshua A.C. Newman for Glyph Press
- “The Darkest House“, and “Numenera” by Monte Cook for Monte Cook Games
- “Monster of the Week” by Michael Sands, Steve Hickey, and Fred Hicks for Evil Hat Productions
- “Tales from the Loop” by Free League Publishing
- “Fall of Magic” by Heart of the Deernicorn
- “The Night Cage“, board game by Christopher Ryan Chan, Chris McMahon, and Rosswell Saunders
- “Cluedon’t” by Grant Howitt, and Chloe Mashiter for Rowan, Rook & Decard
- “Dark Earth” by Multisim Editions
- “Legend of the Five Rings” by EDGE Studio
- “Cthulhu Dark” by Graham Walmsley
- “Cthulhu 476 AD” by James D. Hargrove
- “Savage Worlds” by Shane Lacy Hensley for Pinnacle Entertainment
Other mentions:
- The Criterion Collection, distribution company focused on licensing, restoring, and distributing “important classic and contemporary films”.
- “Annihilation“, film written and directed by Alex Garland
We don’t know at this point what our next episode will be about but Film Studies will return in due time.
See you then for more silver screen extravaganza.
Cheers
Kalum
