In this episode, Caleb and Scott are joined by special guest Kevin Smith from Melvin Smif’s Geekery! As usual, these episodes are a little more rough around the edges, with less editing to reflect a more conversational tone. They also include more of the tangents, bad jokes, and adult language that we tend to use when we’re hanging out and having fun.
We start off with a special offer from Battle Bards. Remember that when you use those codes, you will use the actual numbers. So that’s a 1, 2, or 3 after the special secret code word. In Extra Curricular, Kevin talks about kicking off his new home game, and we dig into the relationship between 4E and 5E Dungeons and Dragons. Scott talks about weddings, comic conventions, and being social. Caleb talks about reading the Nightside series of books but doesn’t do it justice. It’s like he didn’t prepare for this at all. Slacker. In Dead Campaign, we throw out that title and decide to call it Used Books instead. We have a theme, after all, and we are professionals. So in Used Books, Kevin shares a campaign about private investigators in Eberron and we talk briefly about how to keep a campaign going in spirit even after it has ended. And in Class Review, it’s time to discuss that bastion of law and order, the Paladin. We talk in detail about older versions of the class and its relation to alignment, a concept that is not as important as it used to be. We discuss mechanics and how they’ve evolved over the years, but we consistently return to the philosophy of what it means to play a Paladin and how it relates to alignment. And we touch on where to find the themes of the Paladin in other games.
