The Campaigns: A New World – Episode 4: Investigating the Holds

Hello and welcome to the campaigns, the Actual Play Podcasts from DnD Academy.

This is A New World: Episode 4:  Investigating the Holds

In our last episode, the PC’s used some creative uses of spells and a fortuitous tidal wave to get their scuttled ship into ground.  However, this is not the world they left.  They have set up camp at the edge of the great sea and a vast primeval forest made up of trees 600 feet tall.  The small beach they are on ground is the footprint of a beast larger than anything they could have imagined.

In this Episode the PC’s continue to investigate the fire in the holds, bringing in a an expert and finding their first suspect.

Thanks for listening. We hope you enjoy.

Comments and Feedback are always welcome.

~Michael

Nice job with the recap of the last episode prior to the intro and then the “Previously on “A New World”!!!” Gets the listeners remembering what happened earlier.

Nice storyline change by the loss of important NPCs; though it could have been planned by Michael, it seemed like something like that would happen and the change.

Like the party-splitting done by Michael by placing them in different groups among the survivors and not giving them all CEO leadership roles. I.e. “I am much more excited about the baking…” LOL

    Yeah “Gilligan’s Island.” LOL

Looking forward to the people-eating birds. Would those be Byakhee’s… Oh wait… That is Call of Cthulhu… 🙂

Interesting take on the Create Water when it takes the properties of the world you are in and not the world that we know it. Nice monkey wrench.

The group seems to be doing a great job using spells to Sherlock Holmes the investigation; nice use of a 1st level spell… Detect Magic.

Nice intro of the next player into the story/podcast. Hope he was not sitting at the table for all this time waiting for his player to be introduced so he could finally play. That would be at least 4 hours; do not know how much time Michael spent editing out game play.

Like the involvement of the players by having them name the NPC’s. Even though it is a Harry Potter reference.

Yupper… Upper management and politicians are idiots!!!

    WOOHOO!!! NIKO!!! WOOHOO!!!

In a “Made Men” episode, I thought you had said that Niko left/was leaving to a different state?; and not a different state of confusion. Har… Har…

Looking forward to see how he plays a beardless dwarf.

    Cheers

    1. Jonathon,
Yeah, Niko did move away. Bad news for us, but much better situation for him. He may join me on a new on-line game i’m starting (or trying too) so perhaps we have not yet heard the last of him . . .

Things don’t play out the way I expected (do they ever?) but one of the things we were trying to do with this game was build a sense of community. Each night before we played (3 eps is usually the same night) I would have each player give me an NPC to flesh out the ‘survivors’ I had hoped that by the end we would have named every one colonists. That’s why, on occasion, there will be a name that pops up that we act like we’ve known but the audience hasn’t heard of before.

Going to name every colonist? All 200? LOL Looking forward to the list.

Better start a poll from your listeners.

I am 10 episodes behind, hopefully I have not repeated any.

        Here are my 5.

1- Markin – sailor/town drunk – waking up every morning in the jungle.
2- Tombon & Maryn Sallo – store owners.
        3- Patryn Sallo – Tombon & Maryn’s daughter – kleptomaniac.
4- Kento – gardener – has the hots for Tredic, but Blaine thinks she has the hots for him and is jealous of Sandra.
5- Stalian – a young dwarf male who wants to be a paladin and secretly follows Valius around.

        Cheers

Ooops… It is Treydak, not Tredic… Should have looked at episode 7 first. Sorry
