Show and Tell – Atomic Robo w/ Mike Olson

Hello and Welcome to Faculty Meetings:The general advice and discussion podcast from The RPG Academy.  This is  where we discuss topics that came up at our gaming table or yours

I am Michael, and this is Faculty Meeting # 53 – Atomic Robo w/ Mike Olson

Caleb and I had a chance to sit down with Mike Olson, lead designer on the awesome Atomic Robo RPG (powered by FATE). Atomic Robo is a comic property by Writer Brian Clevinger and Artist Scott Wegener. I am a huge fan of FATE, both the system and the book itself. I think Atomic Robo surpasses FATE core as my favorite RPG book. The way they incorporate the comic’s art to illustrate rules and concepts is nothing short of amazing.

Mike will be at GenCon this year and I hope we’ll have a chance to game together.

We want to give a big TY Shout out to 2 new Patreon backers.

Lucas from TheCityofBrass.com  @City_of_Brass, is now backing us on Patreon at the Masters Level which means I’ll be running a Monthly game for him and 4 of his friends. We’ve decided to Play Dungeons & Dragons 5e and are already getting characters made.

Jerry H. is also a backer now, but decided not to use Patreon. He arranged for a one-time donation through PayPal, but i’ll be giving him some Patreon rewards equivalent to his donation.

We also have 2 new review on iTunes this week.  Clancy777 and Dominick951 both gave us 5-star reviews. Than you both!

Holy cow. I read Atomic Robo when Brian Clevinger first started putting it up on his website. I lost track of it after a few months. I almost didn’t listen to this podcast, since I didn’t really think I’d be interested.

HOW WRONG I WAS. This was A) a wonderful interview, B) the “dealer’s first taste” of Atomic Robo, and C) a very interesting look at turning an IP into an RPG.

I want to own this book and any Atomic Robo comics I can get my hands on.

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed it! I was serious about my praise, I LOVE that book. Any time I want to teach someone FATE that will be the book I use first, even if we don’t play Atomic Robo.

      Thanks for listening!!

  1. Still a lot of free Atomic Robo on atomic-robo.com and Comixology. It’s a really great book.
