Hello and welcome to Faculty Meetings:  The general advice and discussion podcasts from The Rpg Academy. This is Faculty Meeting # 86 – Back to Basics

In this episode Caleb and I get back on track with what these Table Topics are supposed to be about: reflection and commentary on our actual games. The good and the bad. What we and through us, you, can learn from what worked and what didn’t. We discuss our recent WUSHU game as well as a recent episode of One Shot that I thought was well worth mentioning.

I hope you enjoy!!

Comments and Feedback are always welcome.
Thanks!!
~Michael

  1. This was a good episode. I liked the discussion on how the environmental elements went or didn’t go as planned. I think that is probably the trickiest part, when you want to set-up some huge epic moment and the players are there and primed to start this huge epic moment, and you are ready and waiting to drop it on them, and boom, they do something slightly different that can just completely skip something or you mess it up and as a DM you realize that you’ve messed up and you have to try and keep your energy up. But if you can keep your energy up, it’s possible that the players won’t even notice. But damn is that tricky.

    1. The best part of this is, one of the patrons who was in the game and has now listened to the ep – totally disagreed with me. He felt the set up was fine and that it was his choice to get sucked into the vortex and wasn’t arbitrary at all. So sometimes as the GM – just don’t be so hard on yourself! I think self reflection and analysis is important but too much of a good thing . . .
